Abstract

Part 1 of this technical report is a review of available information relating to the Mauritian Banks Fishery. It covers: Geography, hydrology, climate; Historical development of the Mauritian Bank Fishery; Species composition; Data Collection; Catch and effort data; Biology/population demographic parameters; Productivity and resource assessments; Economics of the fishery; and Legislation/management measures. Part 2 contains spatial analyses of Indian Ocean banks comparing sites representing a gradient of fishing pressure. Sections cover: Indian Ocean Banks Fisheries; Data Sources; Environmental data; Catch and Effort Data; Data Treatment; Correlation of catch rate with fishing and environmental parameters; Application of spatial data to production models; and Discussion of demersal species abundance at the Chagos Archipelago.
