The Metrics of African Urbanization

Measuring urbanization in Africa from research undertaken to inform analysis of urban food insecurity in secondary cities

Abstract

The collection of articles on measuring urbanization in Africa emerges from research undertaken to inform analysis of urban food insecurity in secondary cities. This project advances debates on urbanization in sub-Saharan Africa (SSA), the nature of urban poverty, and the relationship between governance, poverty, and the spatial characteristics of cities through a focus on urban food systems

This work is part of ‘Governing Food Systems to Alleviate Poverty in Secondary Cities in Africa’ project supported by the Economic and Social Research Council (ESRC) and the UK Department for International Development.
