Abstract

Some of the commonly understood benefits of Regulatory Impact Assessment (RIA) are that it will increase the understanding of the impact of government policies, help unite different interests and approaches to problems, improve public governance transparency and increase the responsibility in public resource management. This paper reviews the rationale behind this assumption and considers the experience of selected transitional economies (Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland and Bulgaria) in Central and Eastern Europe (CEE).
