The state of research and development of microbicides for the prevention of HIV.
Abstract
This presentation describes: the increasing proportion of women and girls among people infected with or at risk from HIV; the need for women-initiated HIV prevention technologies; what microbicides are; how they work; how they relate to other anti-HIV measures; formulation; drug development; clinical trials; the work of the International Partnership for Microbicides; its collaborators and funding sources; and the need for further research and its expected outcome.
