The tailoring of competition policy to Caribbean circumstances: some suggestions.
Abstract
The paper first gives an overview of the benefits and objectives of competition policy, and different approaches to it in different jurisdictions. The next section then lists possible characteristics of Caribbean countries, as well as problems arising from small size or weakness of the competition culture that may be particularly acute for Caribbean competition authorities attempting to implement their competition laws and policies. The third section then makes suggestions as to how competition policy might be applied in the Caribbean, covering both some substantive and institutional aspects. The conclusions briefly highlight key messages from this article, and suggests how further research in this area might be structured.
