Third parties in peace agreements: first look at new data and key trends

This report provides a look into the dataset, and considers trends from the peace agreements and signatories data.

Abstract

Two-thirds of formal peace agreements involve at least one third-party signatory, with international third parties present in half of the agreements.

This report provides a first look into the new Third Parties in Peace Agreements Dataset, and considers key trends from the peace agreements and signatories data.

Findings highlight changes to the composition of the dataset and the engagement of selected countries – including Russia, China, Qatar, and Kenya – and regional organisations including the African Union, Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD) and the European Union (EU).

This report is an output of the Peace and Conflict Resolution Evidence Platform (PEACEREP) programme
