RESYST (Resilient and Responsive Health Systems) programme is led by the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine, and supported by the UK Department for International Development.

This topic overview is based on RESYST Working Paper 4.

This topic overview provides an overview of the evidence on health systems leadership and management in low and middle-income countries. It describes who health leaders and managers are, the scope of their work and the ideal competencies required for effective leadership and management. It then outlines approaches to developing leadership and management skills and the strengths and limitations of these approaches.
