Towards A New Policy Model for Media and Communication in Post-Conflict and Fragile States [PolicyBrief].
Abstract
Taking as its primary case study the Office of Transition Initiatives at the US Agency for International Development, the paper 'Towards A New Policy Model for Media and Communication in Post-Conflict and Fragile States' (world Bank, 2008, 112 pp.) calls for a new model in post-conflict and fragile states, one that prioritizes communication's role in governance and peacebuilding. This briefing outlines some of the connective links between the three categories of media and communication sector activities (communication for humanitarian relief/peacebuilding/good governance, strategic communication, and independent media development); and recommends an open, participatory and independent media and communication process to devise more effective solutions to the challenges of post-conflict and fragile states.
