Understanding Market Drivers in Syria
This report presents findings from a research study of the olive/olive oil and spice/herb market systems in northern Syria
Abstract
This report presents the findings from a qualitative research study commissioned by the UK Department for International Development (DFID) of the olive/olive oil and spice/herb market systems in northern Syria.
It illustrates market and trade patterns and dynamics that are relevant to food commodity systems in Syria and provides recommendations on programmes and policy that can sustain markets, as a means to increase food-insecure communities’ resilience to the conflict.
It is relevant to all humanitarian actors interested in increasing the resilience of food-insecure communities in Syria, while avoiding the risk of fuelling the war economy.
This research was funded under the ‘Provision of Technical Assistance to the Syria Crisis Response’ programme.
