UNFPA/CHINA Reproductive Health/Family Planning Project - CPR/03/P01 Baseline Survey, Key Findings.
Abstract
This report summarises the preliminary key findings from a baseline survey conducted as part of the CP5 RH/FP project CPR/03/P01, launched in June 2003. The baseline survey was conducted in September 2003 in all the selected 30 counties in China, and was coordinated jointly by the National Population and Family Planning Commission (NPFPC), the Ministry of Health and the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA). The survey used three types of questionnaires; individual (women and husbands, service provider and facility). After a general introduction, Section 2 describes the background characteristics of survey respondents. The RH/FP knowledge, including HIV/AIDS and STIs of both men and women, are addressed in Section 3. Contraceptive use patterns are explained in Section 4. Section 5 discusses pregnancy outcomes (births and abortions) and antenatal behaviour. Reproductive disorders are briefly discussed in Section 6. Section 7 provides an overview of the role of service providers in the delivery of RH/FP services. Section 8 outlines the statistics related to manpower and resources infrastructure of facilities in the project counties. The findings are summarised in the executive summary provided at the beginning of the report. A few of the selected demographic and health indicators of the project counties are appended at the end of the report.
