WASH & Undernutrition

Abstract

It is estimated that undernutrition causes 2.2 million deaths and 21% of global disease burden for children younger than 5 years. Oliver Cumming describes how poor WASH contributes to this problem in both direct and indirect ways. Diseases such as diarrhoea, tropical enteropathy and nematode infections have negative effects on nutritional status in children.
