Why behaviours do not change

Structural constraints that influence household decisions to control pig diseases in Myanmar

Abstract

Highlights

  • Myanmar’s pig farmers have little access to scientific knowledge of pig diseases.

  • As a result, their understandings of disease risks to human health are limited.

  • Livestock households attend closely to diseases affecting animal health & income.

  • Structural factors drive behaviours increasing long-term economic & disease risks.

  • Behaviours would not change unless the structural factors are addressed.
