Why behaviours do not change
Structural constraints that influence household decisions to control pig diseases in Myanmar
Abstract
Highlights
-
Myanmar’s pig farmers have little access to scientific knowledge of pig diseases.
-
As a result, their understandings of disease risks to human health are limited.
-
Livestock households attend closely to diseases affecting animal health & income.
-
Structural factors drive behaviours increasing long-term economic & disease risks.
-
Behaviours would not change unless the structural factors are addressed.
This is a publication arising from the Zoonoses and Emerging Livestock Systems (ZELS) programme
