Will climate change undermine the potential for hydro-power in Africa?

This paper explores the role and solutions to the challenge

Abstract

Africa’s demand for electricity is projected to grow exponentially in the coming decades and hydropower is a critical component of African governments’ plans to meet these growing needs.

However, hydropower development frequently presents severe environmental and social challenges – many of which are likely to be exacerbated by climate change. This paper explores the role and solutions to the challenge.
