Bravehound
Bravehound is a Scottish charity that provides assistance dogs to veterans from all branches of the armed forces with mental health needs related to experiences during military service.
About Bravehound
Bravehound supports veterans with mental health needs, mainly, but not restricted to, those experiencing PTSD. They also support veterans with cognitive impairment and some beneficiary veterans that have additional physical injuries.
They do not provide clinical services, and beneficiaries must be engaged with a mental health support service.
Referrals can only be accepted from veterans based in the central belt of Scotland. Referrals are usually made through a mental health professional or GP. However, veterans may also self-refer through their website
The charity provides assistance dogs and supports the training and welfare needs of each dog and veteran partnership over the dogs’ lifetime.
They are also currently running a project to support veterans wishing to work in the area of dog training. This is a time-limited project funded by the Office for Veterans’ Affairs through the Armed Forces Covenant Fund Trust.
