Personal information charter

The Science and Innovation Network (SIN) plays an important role in encouraging prosperity and growth by fostering international scientific cooperation.

As the international community comes together to tackle global problems such as climate change and antimicrobial resistance, relationships in science and technology research become more important. Given the solid foundations of our shared heritage, Britain and Canada are natural research partners and work together on a range of topics with the Canada-UK Joint Innovation Statement as a guide.

Our team in Canada works to promote UK-Canada collaboration in science and innovation through our offices at the British High Commission in Ottawa as well as the British Consulates General in Calgary, Montreal, Toronto, and Vancouver.

Responsibilities

SIN Canada helps researchers in the UK increase their reach through partnerships with Canadian research organisations. In addition, we work with governments across the UK and Canada to exchange policy best practice. Our offices in Canada also offer professional, authoritative and personalised assistance to British and Canadian researchers and companies

Priorities

  • Health and Life Sciences: Antimicrobial resistance poses a major threat to public health and needs a global solution. SIN Canada is working with partners throughout the Americas to stimulate policy and scientific research in this field.

  • Clean Energy and Environment: Promoting the advancement, development and adoption of renewable energy and clean technology in a wide variety of areas, including carbon capture usage and storage (CCUS), smart grids and energy storage.

  • Science and Innovation Policy: SIN Canada will continue to support its relationship with the federal government by continued expertise sharing, particularly in the areas of gender equality and women’s empowerment. *Polar Regions: Enable UK-Collaboration in Arctic scientific research, including UK participation in the new Canadian High Arctic Research Station.

  • Advanced Manufacturing: Canada and the UK are world leading in the fields of automation, robotics, artificial intelligence and autonomous vehicles. SIN Canada will build off of previous year’s work and continue to promote UK-Canada collaboration in these areas.
