Get permission to use DVSA logos

Apply for permission to use Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency (DVSA) logos if you're a driving or motorcycle instructor or provide other driver training.

Introduction

You must apply to the Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency (DVSA) to get permission if you want to use its logos.

You can get permission to use the:

  • DVSA logo
  • Pass Plus logo
  • DVSA enhanced rider scheme logo
  • Driver Certificate of Professional Competence (CPC) logo

You have to follow certain rules if you’re given permission. DVSA can withdraw your permission to use the logos at any time.

DVSA logos are protected by law. You cannot use them without permission.

Apply for permission

Use the application form if you want to use the:

  • DVSA logo
  • Pass Plus logo
  • DVSA enhanced rider scheme logo

There’s a different process to apply to use the Driver CPC logo.

Apply for permission to use DVSA logos

Request an accessible format.

  1. Check you’re eligible to use the logo you want.

  2. Download and fill in the application form.

  3. Save the application form on your computer.

  4. Email the form to crowncopyright@dvsa.gov.uk. You need to include information about any instructors who work for you if you run a driving school or training body. The form tells you what to include.

  5. DVSA should reply within 10 working days with a decision, and the logo files if your application is successful.

You can also post the form and documents to DVSA.

You can apply to use the DVSA logo if you are:

  • an approved driving instructor (ADI)
  • a DVSA enhanced rider scheme trainer

You can also apply if you run:

  • a driving school using fully-qualified ADIs
  • a motorcycle approved training body (ATB)
  • a DVSA approved training body for the international carriage of dangerous goods by road (ADR)
  • a Driver CPC training centre
  • drink-drive rehabilitation scheme courses

You can also apply if your organisation promotes road safety and is either:

  • a local council
  • an educational authority
  • a charity or not-for-profit organisation

You can use the DVSA corporate logo on:

  • business letter headed paper and compliment slips
  • business adverts in classified directories, for example, the Yellow Pages
  • websites, to link to www.gov.uk/dvsa
  • formal business emails (but not on bulk emails or unsolicited emails)

You must not use the DVSA logo on:

  • clothing
  • business cards
  • merchandise
  • any business advert or promotional material, except for than business adverts in classified directories
  • vehicles
  • certificates
  • a specific webpage more than twice

When you use the DVSA logo, you have to use supporting wording to explain why you’re using it.

If you use the DVSA corporate logo to represent instructors and training centres, they must all be fully qualified, approved and registered with DVSA.

The DVSA logo uses the Royal Coat of Arms.

You must make sure the Royal Coat of Arms part of the logo is:

  • at least 30 pixels high if you’re using it online
  • at least 5 millimetres high if you’re printing it

Keep a clear space around the DVSA logo.

You must keep a clear space around the DVSA logo, which is at least as wide as the Royal Coat of Arms part of the logo.

You must not:

  • stretch or distort the logo
  • change the colour of the logo
  • change the lettering or wording
  • make the logo bigger or more prominent than your logo
  • use the logo to suggest you or an organisation are part of DVSA

You can apply to use the Pass Plus logo if you are:

  • an ADI on the register of Pass Plus instructors
  • an educational authority promoting road safety
  • a local council or devolved administration promoting road safety
  • an insurance company offering a discount to drivers who successfully complete Pass Plus
  • a business with a product primarily aimed at promoting road safety, and you can prove how it supports Pass Plus

You can use the Pass Plus logo on:

  • business letter headed paper, compliment slips and business cards
  • clothing, vehicles, advertising material and promotional merchandise
  • email or web templates
  • business adverts in classified directories, for example, the Yellow Pages
  • websites as a link to www.gov.uk/pass-plus
  • a business product that promotes road safety in the context of safe driving

You should use supporting wording to explain why you’re using the Pass Plus logo.

Example ‘A DVSA Pass Plus registered instructor’ or ‘All our trainers are on DVSA’s register of Pass Plus instructors’.

You must keep a clear space around the Pass Plus logo, which is at least as wide as the ‘arms’ part of the logo.

You must not:

  • stretch or distort the logo
  • change the colour of the logo
  • change the lettering or wording
  • make the logo bigger or more prominent than your logo
  • use the logo to suggest you or an organisation are part of DVSA

You can apply to use the DVSA enhanced rider scheme logo if you are:

  • registered as a DVSA enhanced rider scheme trainer
  • an educational authority promoting road safety
  • a local council or devolved administration promoting road safety

You can use the DVSA enhanced rider scheme logo on:

  • business letter headed paper, compliment slips and business cards
  • clothing, advertising material and promotional merchandise
  • email or web templates
  • business adverts in classified directories, for example, the Yellow Pages
  • websites as a link to www.gov.uk/enhanced-rider-scheme

You should use supporting wording to explain why you’re using the DVSA enhanced rider scheme logo.

Example ‘A DVSA enhanced rider scheme trainer’ or ‘All our trainers are registered DVSA enhanced rider scheme trainers’.

You must keep a clear space around the DVSA enhanced rider scheme logo, which is at least as high and wide as the crown from the logo.

You must not:

  • stretch or distort the logo
  • change the colour of the logo
  • change the lettering or wording
  • make the logo bigger or more prominent than your logo
  • use the logo to suggest you or an organisation are part of DVSA

Using Driver CPC logos

You can apply to use the Driver CPC logo if you are:

  • a Driver CPC approved training centre
  • a Driver CPC consortium
  • a local council or devolved administration

These organisations are also allowed to use the Driver CPC logo:

  • National Police Chiefs’ Council
  • Police Scotland
  • Confederation of Passenger Transport
  • Driver and Vehicle Agency
  • Freight Transport Association
  • People1st
  • Health and Safety Executive
  • Qualification and Curriculum Authority
  • Recruitment and Employment Confederation
  • Road Haulage Association
  • Skills for Logistics
  • Scottish Qualification Authority
  • Transport for London

Contact the Joint Approvals Unit for Periodic Training (JAUPT) to apply for permission to use the Driver CPC logo.

If you’re an approved training centre

You must use the wording ‘Approved centre AC00XXX’ below the Driver CPC logo.

If you’re part of a Driver CPC training consortium

You must use the wording ‘Approved consortium member of AC00XXX’ below the Driver CPC logo.

Keep a clear space around the Driver CPC logo.

You must keep a clear space around the Driver CPC logo, which is at least as high and wide as the ‘c’ from the logo.

The only thing allowed within this clear space is the approved wording.

You must not:

  • stretch or distort the logo
  • change the colour of the logo
  • change the lettering or wording
  • make the logo bigger or more prominent than your logo
  • use the logo to suggest you or an organisation are part of DVSA

Report misuse of DVSA logos

Contact DVSA if you think its logos are being misused or used without permission.

It will help if you send:

  • website links or screenshots if you saw it online
  • photos if you saw it somewhere else
