Future framework for biomethane production call for evidence: privacy notice

This notice sets out how we will use your personal and commercial data collected through this Call for Evidence to inform the policy development of a future framework for biomethane production. It also sets out your rights. It is made under Articles 13 and/or 14 of the UK General Data Protection Regulation (UK GDPR).
The data
The Call for Evidence is made up of questions asking for views and requests for supporting evidence and data.
We will process the following data from the responses we receive:
- written answers to the questions outlined within the Call for Evidence
- data provided within written answers
- data provided through supplementary documents
Personal data
Your personal data is being collected as an essential part of the process, so that we can contact you regarding your response and for statistical purposes. We may also use it to contact you about related matters, unless you state that you do not want to be contacted. Personal data submitted as part of your response to this Call for Evidence may include:
- your name and/or organisation name
- your email or postal address
- any personal data you volunteer by way of evidence or example in your response to the consultation
Purpose
The purpose for which we are processing your personal data is:
For analysis as part of the Future policy framework for biomethane production: call for evidence. This analysis will support future policy development, including the design and appraisal of the policy interventions required to incentivise the biomethane industry to scale-up and meet its potential. This analysis involves using your response for qualitative assessments and data analytics, either in isolation or combined with other datasets.
Legal basis of processing
The legal basis for processing your personal data is:
Public task: processing is necessary for the performance of a task carried out in the public interest or in the exercise of official authority vested in the Department for Energy Security and Net Zero (DESNZ). In this case, the development of a future policy framework for biomethane production.
Recipients
Written responses to the questions will not be shared in their entirety with anyone as submitted to DESNZ. We may publish anonymous extracts of responses or findings arising from their analysis in any related future publications.
Data provided within written responses or in supplementary documentation will not be shared with anyone outside DESNZ or other government departments, when necessary for the purpose of this Call for Evidence. We may publish summary conclusions drawn from analysis which will be informed by aggregated responses.
As your personal data will be stored on our IT infrastructure it will also be shared with our data processors Microsoft and Amazon Web Services.
Retention
Your personal data will be kept by us for no longer than it is needed to fulfil our functions in completing the development of a future policy framework for biomethane production.
Other, non-personal data, including data and written responses that may be commercially sensitive in nature, will be retained separately by DESNZ for monitoring, data analytics and/or research purposes.
Your rights
You have the right to:
- request information about how your personal data are processed, and to request a copy of that personal data
- request that any inaccuracies in your personal data are rectified without delay
- request that any incomplete personal data are completed, including by means of a supplementary statement
- request that your personal data are erased if there is no longer a justification for them to be processed
- in certain circumstances (for example, where accuracy is contested) request that the processing of your personal data is restricted
- object to the processing of your personal data where it is processed for direct marketing purposes
- object to the processing of your personal data
International transfers
Your personal data will be processed in the UK.
As your personal data is stored on our IT infrastructure and shared with our data processors Microsoft and Amazon Web Services, it may be transferred and stored securely outside the UK. Where that is the case it will be subject to equivalent legal protection through an adequacy decision, the use of Standard Contractual Clauses or a UK International Data Transfer Agreement
Complaints
If you consider that your personal data has been misused or mishandled, you may make a complaint to the Information Commissioner, who is an UK independent regulator. The Information Commissioner can be contacted at:
