This collection brings together all documents relating to building materials and components monthly statistics.

The Department for Business and Trade (DBT) ‘Monthly statistics of building materials and components’ presents detailed information on selected building materials.

The publication contains monthly data on price indices, bricks and concrete blocks. It contains quarterly data on sand and gravel, slate, concrete roofing tiles, ready-mixed concrete and imports/exports of construction products. Cement data is updated on an annual basis.

Each edition of the publication consists of a commentary and data tables (in Excel and ODS formats).

The next edition of this publication, ‘Building Materials and Components: December 2024’ will be published on Friday, 10 January 2024. This is due to additional time being needed for data sourcing and processing over the Christmas and New Year period.

Past editions of building materials and components: monthly statistics are available at the National Archives website.

Supporting documents are available on this collection page, in line with the code of practice for official statistics, including a calendar of future publication dates.

Extensive revisions have been made to trade data (Tables 13 & 14 of data table) from 2018 onwards. These revisions are a result of technical issues, which led to incomplete data being obtained from HMRC, being fixed.

Details of the revisions and error policy for this publication are available in DBT’s statistics error policy.

Following a 2012 the Office for National Statistics’ (ONS) Methodology Advisory Service (MAS) review improvements were made to the publication. The reports are available in the section of this page titled “Other documents”.
