Before you start
If your organisation uses Civil Service Jobs, you will need an account.
Creating vacancies
There are two types of vacancy:
- apply online - candidates submit their applications within the system
- advert only - candidates make their applications elsewhere
Managing online tests
How to set up online tests on vacancies and manage candidates taking tests, including reviewing scores, issuing reminders and resetting tests.
Help and support for candidates
Some candidates need additional help or adjustments during the recruitment process.
They can specify this on their application before submitting it - the application will move to ‘Help required’ status so you can easily identify it.
Sifting candidates
How to review applications and enter sift results.
Sift results can be entered individually for each candidate or for multiple candidates in bulk.
Interviewing candidates

Managing reserve lists
When a candidate meets the required standard but can’t be offered a position immediately, they can be held on a reserve list.
Reserve lists are held for a specified length of time.

Manually adding applications
If a candidate has been allowed to submit an offline application, recruiters can add their application to Civil Service Jobs vX.
Archiving completed vacancies
Once recruitment is complete, the vacancy should be archived.
