There are 2 main types (clades) of mpox, clade I and clade II. Clade I mpox is classified as a high consequence infectious disease (HCID), and clade II mpox is not. This page provides further information and guidance for the public, professionals and service providers on clade I and clade II mpox.

Technical, epidemiological overview, monitoring and surveillance

The UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA) is monitoring the effectiveness and impact of mpox vaccination and disease in the real world:

Effectiveness of one dose of MVA-BN smallpox vaccine against mpox in England using the case-coverage method.

This study estimates the vaccine effectiveness after a single dose of smallpox vaccine against mpox disease.
