Positioning, Navigation and Timing
Information and guidance about Positioning, Navigation and Timing (PNT).
PNT provides the ability to determine location and orientation (positioning), current and desired position (navigation) and acquire and maintain accurate and precise time from a standard anywhere in the world (timing).
Our guidance on PNT provides more detail on what PNT is and its impact.
PNT projects and announcements
Projects and announcements related to the government’s framework for Greater PNT Resilience.
National Positioning Navigation and Timing Office
The National Positioning, Navigation and Timing Office is part of the Department for Science, Innovation and Technology. The office is responsible for PNT policy, coordination, and delivery and works across government to implement the framework for Greater PNT Resilience. This framework sets out the current and future focus for PNT policy to improve PNT resilience across the Critical National Infrastructure (CNI) and wider economy, and drive growth.
Wider PNT work
Other publications on PNT. These include the 2018 Blackett review which identified that many of our critical services rely on Global Navigation Satellite Systems (GNSS) to operate and there is a need to improve national resilience.
These publications do not directly relate to the framework for Greater PNT Resilience.
