We received 21 responses to this consultation. We have considered the comments received and we’ve produced an updated draft code of practice for the welfare of laying hens and pullets.

The draft code was placed in Parliament on 5 June 2018. If there are no objections from Parliament, it will come into force in August 2018.

We want to know what you think of our draft statutory code of practice for the welfare of laying hens. The code of practice is for England only. The code provides improved, up-to-date guidance on the current legislation and reflects the latest scientific and veterinary knowledge.
