On 1 October 2021 the Secretary of State announced their decision to approve 3 parts of the England Coast Path in Cumbria between Gretna and Allonby. Approval for the remaining 2 parts is yet to be determined.

Detail of feedback received
Following the opportunity to comment, the planning inspector explored some of the issues raised at a hearing in December 2017.
The Secretary of State will take the planning inspector’s report into account in determining the outcome.

Consultation description
On 25 July 2016, Natural England submitted a report to the Secretary of State for the Department of the Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (Defra) setting out our proposals for improved access to the Cumbrian coast between Gretna and Allonby.
The opportunity to comment closed at 5pm on 19 September 2016. You can no longer make a representation or objection on proposals.
All representations and objections will be considered before the Secretary of State makes a final decision about the report.
