This document gives a summary of the consultation responses and the government’s response to them.

The government has decided to replace the legislation on low-alcohol descriptors with guidance.

The guidance on low-alcohol descriptors sets out the descriptors that the alcohol and retail industries are expected to use, which is based on the 4 descriptors that were in the legislation.

The government is consulting on how best to continue to communicate information about low alcohol products to the public once the current legislation expires. It would like your views on:

  • the introduction of recommended low alcohol descriptors through guidance rather than legislation
  • the current set of low alcohol descriptors and whether new ones should be added
