Applications invited for appointments as Non-Executive Board Members

The Secretary of State for Northern Ireland is seeking to appoint two new non-executive board members to the Northern Ireland Office.

The Northern Ireland Office supports the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland in promoting the best interests of Northern Ireland within a stronger United Kingdom. It ensures Northern Ireland interests are fully and effectively represented at Westminster and the heart of Government, and the Government’s responsibilities are fully and effectively undertaken in Northern Ireland.

The team of non-executive board members provide a key oversight role in relation to the strategic and operational leadership of the Northern Ireland Office. The non-executive team works collegiately and complements the balance of skills and experience of Ministers and senior officials by bringing independent advice, support, constructive challenge and a fresh external perspective to help shape the Department’s work.

Personal Specification

Being a non-executive board member is a challenging and rewarding opportunity. It calls for someone who can build productive and respectful relationships with fellow board members, work effectively with a wide range of individuals, and who has good negotiating skills, judgement, resilience, sensitivity and vision of a high order. They will be expected to work as part of a team and provide support, guidance, and challenge the progress and implementation of the Outcomes Delivery Plan and the use of resources.

Terms of appointment

The positions are for a term of three years and attract an annual remuneration of £7,500 plus expenses.
