British Embassy in Kuwait celebrates The Queen’s 92nd birthday
The British Embassy in Kuwait celebrated 92nd birthday of Her Majesty The Queen Elizabeth II at the Ambassador’s Residence on 25 April 2018.
The Queen’s birthday party celebrations at British Ambassador Michael Davenport’s Residence was attended by more than 650 guests including senior officials, ministers, ambassadors, business leaders, civil society, media personalities and representatives from both the British and local community in Kuwait.
This has been a very special week for the British Royal Family as the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge welcomed their third child and HM The Queen celebrated her birthday.
In his address, the British Ambassador to Kuwait, Michael Davenport, thanked official partners and guests for supporting this year’s celebration and said:
We were all touched by the personal message which His Highness the Amir sent to Her Majesty on this auspicious occasion, as Her Majesty begins the 67th year of her reign – the longest reign of any British monarch - and as we prepare to celebrate the 65th anniversary of her Coronation in 1953, attended of course by His Highness Sheikh Abdullah Al-Salim Al-Sabah.
This year has been a special one in many respects. Not least because on her birthday Her Majesty was able to welcome at Buckingham Palace the heads of government of 46 Commonwealth countries, who confirmed their decision that His Royal Highness the Prince of Wales will be the next Head of the Commonwealth.
We are today also looking ahead to the wedding which will take place on 19th May at St George’s Chapel in Windsor between Prince Harry and Miss Megan Markle. We are all sending them every good wish on their marriage and for many, many happy years together.
This year’s event is not only an occasion to celebrate Her Majesty’s birthday, but also an opportunity to celebrate the friendship between the British and Kuwaiti people. The UK and Kuwait enjoy warm and friendly relations based on a long and shared history. As we look ahead to 2019 the UK and Kuwait will celebrate the 120th anniversary of the Friendship treaty between the two countries signed in 1899. The Embassy plans to mark this treaty throughout next year with events that reflect the distinguished relations between the two countries. More than 100,000 Kuwaitis visit the UK every year, with 5500 full-time Kuwaiti students studying at British universities and several thousand making the UK their second home.
