British Ambassador Charles Hay, Princess Anne (Princess Royal) and Chairman of the British Olympic Association Hugh Robertson attended the event and delivered congratulatory messages. The attendees welcomed the largest (59 athletes) and best prepared Team GB ever for a Winter Olympics. They wished the athletes well, and Team GB Chef de Mission, Mike Hay, announced Lizzy Yarnold as the flag bearer. Princess Anne was particularly thrilled to be back in Korea for a major sporting event – as she also participated in the 1988 Seoul Summer Olympics as an IOC member.

The reception was closed with a ‘samulnori’ (Korean traditional percussion) performance by local Jinbu Elementary school students, highlighting the strength of the UK-Korea relationship.
