Celebrating the successes in Wales

Secretary of State for Wales will be hosting an event at Gwydyr House in London tonight to mark the end of a fantastic year for Wales.

This was published under the 2016 to 2019 May Conservative government

Guests from business, academia, sport, charities and the media will come together to celebrate everything our nation has achieved in 2016 and look ahead to 2017.

In 2016 we have seen record employment in Wales, secured the Cardiff City Deal, as well as the fantastic achievements of our national football team and Olympic athletes.

Alun Cairns, the Secretary of State for Wales, said:

2016 has been a tremendous year for Wales where we have seen record employment rates. As we approach the end of the year it is important that the UK Government brings people from across Wales together so we can work in partnership to build on our achievements in 2017.

Next year we will be pulling together to make sure Wales is in the strongest possible position to benefit from Brexit, building an economy that works for everyone and creating a lasting devolution settlement to make the United Kingdom stronger. It will also be a great year for our capital city as Cardiff looks forward to hosting the Champions League Final.
