This week we marked the successful completion of our programme assistance on monitoring administrative justice in Macedonia, or how state institutions act in providing the services that citizens need from them.
The last in the series of events was a debate instigated by the review on the appointments in the public sector, size and effectiveness of management bodies and the steps needed to reform them to improve their efficiency.
Our Ambassador Charles Garrett spoke at the event along with Damjan Mancevski, Minister of Information Society and Administration. He said:
How a country runs its public service says a great deal about the country. Perhaps more importantly, the way that a country wants to develop its public service is a telling reflection of its ambitions. And that is why events like this one, and the wider programme of work that it is part of, are so important – because they reflect Macedonia’s ambition to strengthen its public service.
The review of public sector appointments was produced by the Centre for Change Management – CUP. Throughout the programme they have worked with other institutions such as Ministry of Information Society and Administration, State Commission for Complaints about Administrative Procedures and Employment in Second Degree, Administrative Courts. With this programme the CUP team monitored different issues of administrative justice and administrative capacities, and how citizens viewed the services that the state provided in health, social policy, complaints submitted to Administrative Courts and provided recommendations how the public services can be improved in these areas.
