PM meeting with Ghanaian President John Dramani Mahama
The Prime Minister met with the Ghanaian President, John Dramani Mahama, in Downing Street.
A Downing Street spokesperson said:
The Prime Minister welcomed the Ghanaian President, John Dramani Mahama to Downing Street earlier today.
The two leaders discussed the UK’s G8 agenda, particularly issues relating to tax, trade and transparency. The Prime Minister said that Ghana was a partner that could lead by example. They discussed the strong expanding commercial links between the UK and Ghana and the current challenges facing the region including piracy and the situation in Mali. Both leaders also agreed on the central importance of bringing security and stability to the region. The Prime Minister welcomed Ghanaian efforts in tackling piracy in the Gulf of Guinea, particularly through hosting the Maritime Trade Information Sharing Centre, and Ghana’s military commitment to the African-led International Support Mission to Mali.
