South Asia Inquirer Sri Lankan Winners
The Thomson Foundation announced the winners of the 2013 Sri Lankan Inquirer Award for investigative reporting.
The Thomson Foundation, in collaboration with the Sri Lanka College of Journalism, is pleased to announce the winners of the 2013 Sri Lankan Inquirer Award for investigative reporting.
They are: Print media – Gagani Weerakoon, Ceylon Today Television – Upendra Herath, Hiru TV Radio – The investigative reporting team, Neth FM
All three winners produced original, high impact stories with in-depth research. They will be going on to the final round of regional judging against entries from Bangladesh for a chance to win a one week study tour to London. The final results of the regional competition will be announced by 14 April.
The three Sri Lankan winners were awarded their certificates by the British High Commissioner to Sri Lanka, John Rankin, on Friday, 4 April, 2014. In his comments during the event, the High Commissioner congratulated the winners on the high standard of their work. He added, ‘I am pleased that the Thomson Foundation, together with the Sri Lanka College of Journalism, has been able to carry out these workshops and initiate this award in Sri Lanka. Investigative journalism is essential to better inform the public, especially in this day and age when information is increasingly available in many forms.’
