Crispin Simon, Her Majesty’s Trade Commissioner for South Asia and Jeremy Pilmore-Bedford, British Deputy High Commissioner in Chennai, will lead a 45-member UK business delegation to the second Global Investors Meet (GIM) in Chennai on 23 and 24 January.

Crispin Simon said:

I’m delighted that we’re partnering with the British Business Group here in Chennai to showcase what the UK has to offer - in the Automotive, Banking, Financial Services, Healthcare, Energy, Telecom, Information Technology and Education sectors. Over two-thirds of UK FDI into India went to South India, with Tamil Nadu receiving nearly a third of the investment.

Jeremy Pilmore-Bedford said:

The UK is a major contributor to the Tamil Nadu success story. Numerous UK companies have set up and grown their business in Tamil Nadu and are now expanding their operations to other parts of India. In fact, UK companies have created around 55,000 jobs in Chennai alone since 2000.

On 23 January, the UK Country Session in the afternoon will include discussions on Financial Services and Fintech: Powering a Digital Economy – Challenges & Opportunities. There will also be a session on Success Stories: My India Story – Investors Perspective, with interesting anecdotes from those companies which have managed to set-up and build a substantial business operation in Tamil Nadu.

Further information

On 23 January, the UK Country Session at the GIM will be from 14:00 hrs to 15:00 hrs at Hall 6, Convention Centre at the Chennai Trade Centre in Nandambakkam, Chennai.

Similarly, India was the UK’s fourth largest source of FDI projects and third largest FDI job creator in 2017/18, with Indian companies creating over 5600 jobs in the UK.
