Helen Milner
Biography
Helen Milner OBE was appointed as a non-executive direct at the Department for Science, Innovation and Technology in November 2024.
She is the Group Chief Executive of Good Things Foundation, an international digital inclusion charity whose mission is a world where everyone can benefit from digital.
Helen has over 30 years’ experience of working in, creating, and leading internet-based organisations delivering innovation and systems change at scale. She works closely with people deep in communities as well at global and national levels. She has worked in public, private, charity, and academic sectors.
Helen was awarded an OBE for services to digital inclusion in the Queen’s Birthday Honours List in June 2015. In 2017 she won the coveted title of Digital Leader of the Year (UK). Helen was named by Computer Weekly as the 14th most influential person in UK IT in 2020.
In 2021, she was named Internet Hero of the year by the Internet Services Providers’ Association (ISPA). And in 2024, she received an honorary Doctor of Letters from the University of Sheffield. She is the chair of environmental charity Subak, and on the Money and Pension Services’ board advisory group.
Non-executive board member
The main responsibilities of non-executive board members are to:
- attend meetings of the departmental board, chaired by the Secretary of State
- provide over-arching strategic guidance and insight to the department
