2027 IPCC Methodology Report for Inventories on Short-Lived Climate Forcers: details and how to apply

Published 12 August 2024

1. About the Methodology Report

The Methodology report will provide a timely review of the methods for the estimation of emissions of short-lived climate forcers provided by the 2006 IPCC Guidelines for the preparation of national inventories.

The outline of the Methodology Report agreed by the Panel at its Sixty-first Session (Sofia, Bulgaria, 27 July to 2 August 2024) is available at: Decision IPCC-LXI-7.

The terms of reference for the production of this Methodology Report are contained in Annex 1 to this decision, and the table of contents of this Methodology Report is contained in Annex 2 to this decision.

2. Nomination process

All IPCC member governments, including the United Kingdom, have been invited to nominate experts for consideration as Coordinating Lead Authors, Lead Authors, and Review Editors for the Methodology Report.  The Task Force Bureau of the Task Force on National Greenhouse Gas Inventories will then select the final author team to produce the report from these nominations. The composition of the group of Coordinating Lead Authors and Lead Authors for each chapter shall aim to reflect:

  • the range of scientific, technical and socio-economic views and expertise, including experts from academia and practitioners and policymakers
  • geographic representation (ensuring appropriate representation of experts from developing and developed countries and countries with economies in transition)
  • a mixture of experts with and without previous experience in IPCC
  • gender balance

The UK is committed to diversity and inclusion in the IPCC process. We encourage and value the nomination of experts from groups, including, but not limited to, women and non-binary people, the LGBTQ+ community, ethnic minorities, and people with disabilities. We welcome all applications from experts currently affiliated with UK institutions and ask that experts based outside the UK contact the National Focal Point of their host country in the first instance. National Focal Points are listed on the IPCC website at: https://www.ipcc.ch/apps/contact/interface/focalpoints.php.
