This research allows Department for Science, Innovation and Technology (DSIT) to deepen its understanding of the AI sector, monitor developments over time, and evaluate interventions to best support sector growth.

The research aims to answer important questions on the AI sector, such as:

  • How much does the UK’s AI sector contribute to the UK economy?
  • Is investment enabling growth, development, innovation and R&D for AI startups?
  • What products and services does the AI sector produce and offer and which sub-sectors does it mostly serve?
  • What are the market dynamics of the AI market and do they lend themselves to innovation, growth, and global competition and cooperation?

In 2023, as in 2022, the study was produced for the DSIT by Perspective Economics, Ipsos and Glass.ai.
