Scallop stock assessment 2018/2019 research carried out by Cefas.

We are pleased to be able to publish the 3rd annual stock assessment report for the selected King Scallop stocks around the English coast, which has been delivered in close collaboration and with support from the UK scallop industry.

The stock assessment programme so far, has delivered much needed crucial data around the status of these important stocks, which will ultimately help to inform future management decisions that are based on robust scientific evidence, to achieve a sustainable approach to fishing.

Throughout 2019, new data including the underwater TV surveys assessing unfished scallop beds, has been fed in to the stock assessment to improve the overall quality of the data, and robustness of stock assessment results. Close monitoring of existing and new data around stock status will continue, to ensure the constant improvement of the quantity and quality of data required to develop adaptive management measures in to the future.
