Introduction
This document sets out the ranges of data values to be used in Bulk Data Transfer (BDT) CAS upload files
AcademicLevel
The data for this field was updated in September 2017 to retain the QCF_NQF codes, but to display the Regulated Qualifications Framework (RQF) values instead of QCF/NQF. The RQF academic levels are directly equivalent to the QCF/NQF levels. In October 2019 the RQF3-8 codes were added, to allow BDT users to distinguish between the old QCF/NQF academic levels and RQF levels in their own systems.
It was subsequently updated in July 2023 to add additional values to denote postgraduate courses that are designated as research programmes.
The QCF_NQF3-8 codes will be removed in due course.

This field is mandatory. If a value of ‘true’ is used, the ‘EnglishLanguageLevelAttained’ and ‘TestProvider’ fields become mandatory.
Alternatively, if a value of ‘false’ is used, the ‘ReasonSELTNotRequired’ field becomes mandatory.

These free text fields are optional, but users are advised to enter the relevant English language test scores in these fields or in the ‘DocumentsUsedToObtainOffer’ field, as the information is required.

PreviousUKStudy
This value activates one of two radio buttons in the CAS: ‘true’ activates the ‘Yes’ button and ‘false’ activates the ‘No’ button. This element is not mandatory in the schema, but failure to provide this data in upload files will mean that CAS will need to be edited manually to select one of the radio buttons before they can be assigned.

This field is optional, but becomes mandatory if the value of ‘true’ is used in the ‘PreviousUKStudy’ field. Furthermore, if a value of ‘SAME’ or ‘LOWER’ is used, the following ‘ProgressionJustification’ text field becomes mandatory (free text).

WorkPlacementPercentage
This numerical field is optional. However, if the value provided for ‘ApplicantHasWorkPlacement’ is ‘true’ but no value is provided for this field, you will not be able to assign the CAS until a value is entered manually .
Furthermore, if the value used exceeds 33, the following ‘WorkPlacementJustificationText’ field becomes mandatory.
