Cervical screening: programme governance

The organisations involved in governance arrangements for the NHS Cervical Screening Programme (NHS CSP) are as follows.
The Secretary of State for Health:
- provides the agreement for NHS England (NHSE) to commission public health services (Section 7a)
- receives policy advice from the UK National Screening Committee (UKNSC)
The UKNSC:
- provides policy advice to the Secretary of State for Health
- receives evidence, evaluation and advice from Public Health England (PHE)
Public Health England:
- incorporates the Young Person and Adult Screening Programmes, and the Screening Quality Assurance Service (SQAS)
- receives the remit and priorities letter from the Secretary of State for Health
Young Person and Adult Screening Programmes:
- provide guidance, standards and IT systems for NHS screening services
- provide input in the the Section 7a letter
- provide new service commissioning
SQAS:
- provides standards compliance for NHS screening services
NHSE:
- incorporates primary care commissioning, public health commissioning and Clinical Commissioning Groups (CCGs)
- provides NHS screening services
