Details
This qualitative research explores claimants’ experiences of completing the Employment and Support Allowance (ESA) and Personal Independence Payment (PIP) questionnaires (‘Capability for Work’ and ‘How your disability affects you’) with the aim of identifying possible improvements. The research also tests whether providing additional information (a combination of descriptions of the PIP application process and of how the assessment works) could improve claimants’ experience of filling in the PIP application form.
The research consisted of focus groups and interviews conducted with a total of 97 Personal Independence Payment (PIP) applicants and Employment Support Allowance (ESA) claimants.
The findings will be used to inform the department’s long term thinking for supporting claimants and will inform the development of options on long term benefit reform.
