Details
These reports present findings from the Cornwall e-cycle pilot, a scheme which gave people a chance to try using an e-cycle without having to buy one.
The main evaluation report reveals that:
- the pilot was successful in attracting interest from people younger than typical e-cycle users
- roadshows, ‘opportunity to try’ (OTT) loans and ‘wheels 2 work electric’ (W2We) loan schemes could help to address the gender gap in cycling
- a quarter of participants reported never cycling and a lack of confidence – for these people, trying an e-cycle may encourage them to cycle more
- nearly all OTT and W2We participants used an e-cycle at least once a week and half used an e-cycle at least 3 or 4 days a week
- e-cycles were useful for people with longer commutes, helped people to save money and allowed participants with reduced mobility to get around more easily
The appendices present the full results of social research conducted for the evaluation, alongside information about the research participants and data collection methods.
The learning for practitioners report outlines 15 lessons learned from the pilot, to help inform the development of future e-cycle schemes.
