This report contains information about the UK cyber security sector, including the number of businesses, the sector’s contribution to the UK economy, the number of people employed and the products and services offered by these firms.

Key findings

  • The UK cyber security sector generated revenue of £10.5 billion, up 3% since last year
  • There are 1,979 cyber security firms, up 7.7% from 1,838 last year.
  • The sector employs 58,005 people (full time equivalents), up 10% since last year, an increase of 5,300 jobs.
  • Investment of £302 million has been raised across 76 deals in dedicated cyber security firms.

This research has been carried out for the Department for Science, Innovation and Technology (DSIT) by Ipsos, in conjunction with Perspective Economics, glass.ai and the Centre for Secure Information Technologies (CSIT) at Queen’s University Belfast. It is part of DSIT’s work in the National Cyber Strategy 2022 to protect and promote the UK in cyber space, develop the UK cyber ecosystem and foster growth in the cyber security sector.
