Details

Decision made by the Charity Commission in April 2002.

The commission considered an application from Cylch (Wales Community Recycling Network) for registration as a charity. Cylch is an umbrella body for community re-use and recycling organisations. The commission considered whether the addition of a purpose of promotion of sustainable waste management could be added without affecting the organisation’s charitable status. As this purpose is aligned with the charitable purpose of conserving and preserving the environment, the commission was satisfied that the organisation could be registered as a charity.

This decision is significant because the commission needed to consider a novel charitable purpose in analogy to existing charitable purposes.
