Decision made by the Charity Commission on 16 December 2009.
The commission considered an application from The Gnostic Centre for registration as a charity. The organisation aimed to advance the Gnostic religion. The commission concluded that the organisation was not established for exclusively charitable purposes and so could not be registered.
This decision is significant because the commission had to consider whether Gnosticism as a religion was charitable in law and whether the organisation also educated the public.
