Response
We have taken the first part of your question to mean how many new staff we recruited into the Department for Education (DfE) in the financial year 2011 to 2012. There were a total of 56 people externally recruited; this includes permanent, fixed term and temporary appointments.
Headcount information for the department is available in the Monthly workforce management information article.
Recruitment, along with other administrative services at the department is outsourced to a shared service provider. The costs are contained within a single monthly charge for all of the administrative services they provide and a separate budget is not identified.
For the 2011 to 2012 financial year, we estimate external recruitment costs of £8,000. We do not separately record onboarding costs.
-
The probation period is 6 months and all new staff passed, or were on track to pass their probation.
-
One person left within 6 months and a further 4 left within 9 months.
-
7 of the staff recruited in the 2011 to 2012 financial year have since been promoted.
