Views of claimants: qualitative findings of the Dame Carol Black review

Details

This report looks at the views of previous and existing benefit claimants who have experienced drug or alcohol dependence on their experiences of the labour market and the benefits and health systems. It also looks a the views of people working in services to help those individuals.

The research helps inform Dame Carol Black’s independent report ‘Drug and alcohol addiction, and obesity: effects on employment outcomes’. The findings helped her to consider

  • the cost of long-term, yet treatable conditions, such as drug addiction, alcoholism and obesity, to society and taxpayers
  • how best to support these individuals back into or to remain in work
