Details

This prison service instruction (PSI) and probation instruction (PI) contains general guidance and detailed information about what prison and Community Rehabilitation Centre (CRC) staff must do to provide a smooth and supportive transition into prison life for newly arrived people.

It covers:

  • arriving at prison (reception)
  • first night and induction
  • physical and mental health screening

It also includes information about how to support individuals who are returning to prison after breaching their release conditions.

This is a current PSI and PI. It came into effect on 1 February 2015. It was last updated on 27 January 2020.
