Details

The EIA regulations (Agriculture) help to protect semi-natural and uncultivated land from development. They do this by requiring a formal assessment of the likely environmental impacts of certain projects that aim to increase the productivity of land for agriculture.

The regulations also guard against possible negative environmental effects from the physical restructuring of rural land holdings, such as changes to field boundaries.

Defra manages the outcome of the formal screening process, when a farmer or landowner is unsatisfied with the assessment, and appeals the following decisions and notices issued by Natural England:

  • screening notices
  • screening decisions
  • consent decisions
  • stop notices
  • remediation notices
