Research background
The purpose of this research was to explore attitudes and behaviours around pensions engagement, pensions saving, and retirement planning across the life course. It also sought to explore how government and industry could better support pension savers throughout their life course or at specific times or life events with appropriate pensions information and/or guidance. Specific life events included, but were not limited to, birthdays, changes to employment, and changes to family arrangements.
Contribution to the evidence base
This research contributes to the evidence base on workplace pensions and engagement by providing insight into individuals’ behaviours and preferences. Find further information on workplace pension engagement from a member’s perspective in this publication.
Research value
This research will inform a range of further policy work to support saver engagement, including:
- The implementation strategy for the 2017 Automatic Enrolment (AE) Review Measures and future AE policy developments.
- The next steps following the Decumulation Call for Evidence Response and Consultation focusing on the support and guidance for those approaching retirement accessing their pensions.
