Details

This prison service instruction (PSI) outlines the responsibilities of governors to ensure the safety of staff, patients and others from the harmful effects of radiation equipment when transferring healthcare arrangements to an outside provider.

It covers the need to ensure that the healthcare provider (a Primary Care Trust, a Local Health Board in Wales or a private healthcare provider) appoints a radiation protection advisor and a trained radiation protection supervisor. It also includes information on the roles and responsibilities of the radiation protection advisor and supervisor.

This is a current PSI. It came into effect on 15 October 2007.
