2. Reminder: autumn schools census 2022 closes 2 November
The 2022 autumn school census date was Thursday, 6 October. The deadline for approved submissions is Wednesday, 2 November.
The school census data will be used to finalise funding allocations. It is important that you check the accuracy of your schools’ returns before you approve them.
Our post-16 interactive census tool can help you understand how schools’ data is used to calculate 16 to 19 funding, in support of schools with sixth forms.
For the 2022 to 2023 academic year the school census will be collecting data about all tuition provided through the national tutoring programme (NTP).
Full guidance to help with completing the census is available on GOV.UK.
If you have any queries about the school census, please use our service request form.
3. Information: school improvement, monitoring and brokering grant allocations 2022 to 2023
The school improvement, monitoring and brokering grant allocations for the period September 2022 to March 2023 have now been published. These are the final allocations of this grant and are paid at 50% of the pro-rated per school level of the October 2021 allocations, with a minimum payment of £25,000.
Local authorities will recall that, with the future of the grant not confirmed until the January 2022 publication of the Government response to our consultation on ending the grant, authorities were permitted to carry over funding from financial year 2021 to 2022 in order to ease transition away from the grant. Local authorities should also note that, if an authority has not spent all of its funding by the end of 31 March 2023, then in line with the conditions of the grant, the Secretary of State may request repayment of any unspent monies.
4. Information: schools supplementary grant revised methodology for ‘new and growing’ schools and school level allocations second payment 2022 to 2023
We have published the allocations for the second payment of the schools supplementary grant, to cover the period September 2022 to March 2023.
The schools supplementary grant allocates £1.2 billion to mainstream schools and academies in 2022 to 2023. The funding rates remain the same as in the first payment of the grant.
Local authorities will receive their second payment in October 2022, with academies receiving their second payment in November 2022. Schools which have opened in the past 7 years and are adding year groups will receive their next payment of the schools supplementary grant in February 2023, to allow for adjustments in line with actual pupil numbers recorded on the October 2022 census.
